Home Counties’ latest track is a jangly, punky assault of danceable, avant-garde noise. ‘White Shirt / Clean Shirt’ delivers on the punk promise of semi-shouted, instantly memorable vocal lines, but merges it with a supremely post-punk attitude of experimentation and strangeness. Whether it’s a sudden textural shift, a squealing synth countermelody or a jubilant attack of chanted backing vocals, there’s always something going on in this promising tune. Despite its left-field sound, the track “looks at the less aspirational, and more universal reality of office work.
